  2. To describe the determinants of undernutrition
  3. To describe the consequences of undernutrition
  4. To present the global occurrence and progress in undernutrition
  5. To discuss the way forward to prevent malnutrition

Learner Objectives

At the end of this presentation, the learner will...

  1. Be familiar with several types of malnutrition
  2. Know the underlying causes of undernutrition
  3. Understand the effects of illness on nutritional status and the effects of nutritional status on illness
  4. Understand the direct effect of undernutrition on child deaths via synergism between illness and child deaths
  5. Know the proportion of child deaths 2 days to 5 years of age directly caused by the synergistic relationship between undernutrition and illness
  6. Understand the importance of focusing on the first two years of life
